C Zimm,

What are they charging you for the paint job if you don't mind my asking?

I was thinking of ordering the aerosol cans of matching paint and doing it myself but it's $25 or $30 a can and naturally I have four different colors plus the clearcoat.

Thanks,

I'm not sure what the cost will end up being. In the early days of full body painting CDI (the paint co.) only had one clear coat above the drip rail. Since my coach was one of those, the clear coat is peeling and flaking badly.
CDI will re-paint the affected area; my liability will be 50%, not to exceed $600.
However, the Eternabond may add another component to the process so I'm not sure of the final cost.
I had three colors mixed and canned (spray) for $25/can; minimum of two cans per color. I had the paint canned prior to my discussions with CDI. I also bought and applied a primer (with hardener) and sanded to obtain a decent surface. At this point I'm just keeping my fingers crossed. CDI has a shop in Redlands, CA that is doing the work, that's about a three hour drive for me.

I got the paint canned in Oxnard by D'Angelos'. If you're interested in doing that give me an e-mail and will be happy to give you phone numbers etc. Thanks for the heads up on the Mex food, I'll be overnighting at the local Elks Lodge.
Best regards

Update on the painted Eternabond:
The shop at CDI in Redlands, CA did a great job covering the Eternabond tape. It's still visible but unless one points it out, probably not noticed. The painter did as good a job as can be done with this tape, it does have some stretch to it so I'll probably need to touch it up on occasion. At this point I'm still not convinced this is the best fix. One thing for sure is; no leaks in the future and no inspect and repair every six months.

When you get time can you post some photos, both distant and closeup?

Thanks,

Doug

Doug; sorry I'm not smart enough to figure out how to post pictures. I have the directions so I'll try it. Otherwise it will be via regular e-mail. I'll take some pics in the AM.

Quick Primer:

IF your pictures are digital and on your PC

Go to Photobucket.com, and register on there as you would one of these forums.

When done there is a pretty straight-forward screen to uploading your pictures. Hit BROWSE, navigate to your pictures, hit UPLOAD, and all done.

On the Photobucket page, find the picture you want to post, click on the link shown (it auto-copies onto your clipboard), come back here and either paste that link, or better, use the picture icon and paste so it appears on your post.

SCVJeff: Photobucket requires a cell number for registration. I refuse to provide that information so I'll e-mail the pics to Doug (CHIPPYSGT). If you wish pics please send me your e-mail and you can post as you wish.
Sorry about that.

Geeze, go away to the boonies for a few days with no Internet and come back to find this thread has been highjacked.

I ask this thread be reserved for it's original subject, nose cap roof seams. Even though Eternabond is part of the solution this discussion is not about Eternabond per se nor maintaining the side wall to roof seams. There's plenty of other discussion in this forum specific to those subjects.

Today was the day for my local Winnie dealer to apply the WSA sanctioned Eternabond to repair the nose cap roof seam degeneration.
They removed all the old caulk including at the front of the air horn and thoroughly prep the surface with a mild solvent (smelled like goof-off) before putting the tape down.

I examined the "narrow" strip of CSL that they removed from the seam and compared it to the big pieces that came off the air horn cover plate. The narrow pieces were obviously degenerating (powdery) in a manner similar to the fiberglass. It's seems almost like a long term chemical reaction was going on.

As a nice aside the dealer gave me the remainder of the roll of Eternabond, about 15 feet worth.

Good job. It looks really nice and hopefully that will eliminate any potential problems. That area under the air horns has been a suspect leak path as they seem to have difficulty applying the sealer there.
Glad it has been fixed.

Before the actual work was done I hadn't considered the part of the nose cap where it meets the air horn platform. It was all covered in CSL already. But the tech took that all off so he could make one straight run although he did have to do it with two pieces and an overlapping seam in the air horn area.

There are a few small bubbles but I was told they would disappate on their own in the next couple of weeks.
