Noise Level of FRED chasis

We are considering a new Adventurer on a FRED Chassis and we wondered how the noise level was compared to a workhorse chassis.

A diesel engine is inherently nosier than a gas engine.

20 years ago I owned a diesel front engine Bluebird Wanderlodge. The noise and heat from the front engine diesel caused me to sell it as soon as I could find a buyer. The quality of the bus was very good, but there is nothing like a diesel pusher.

Over the years, diesel engine technology has vastly improved to where the newer Cummins engines are much quieter.

(from Cummins site) "The major contributing factor to combustion noise reduction is new high-pressure common rail electronic fuel injection. This system uses pilot injection, the injection of a small amount of fuel that starts combustion, before the main, power-producing, fuel charge is injected. This has the effect of smoothing out combustion pressure in the cylinder, which is the primary source of low-speed noise in diesel engines."

Therefore, before relying too heavily on opinions of others, I would highly recommend following smlranger's suggestion, drive one yourself before making any decision.

Although I have never driven a Adventure Fred I own a Tiffin Fred and have owned both Ford and Workhorse motorhomes in the past.

IMO the noise level is about the same and probably a little less in the Fred during cruising speeds. As others recommended, test drive both vehicles.

Many thanks for your thoughts and replies. I agree driving one is the best way. So far I have not been able top locate one near where we live, but as we travel about I will try to locate one.
