New to this one

Just purchased a 2012 Itasca 42E. I was told that the fuel fill would not accept the pump nozzle at a truck pump. Is that true?

Well Finhawk,
Not sure of your new unit but, our '04 Itasca 36GD with the 330 CAT, which has two fills, one on each side, will accept the larger nozzle on the drivers side but, I can't remember if the passenger side will. In either case, both are kind of slow to accept fuel. But, in your case, either measure the opening and take a run to a truck stop and see, or, drive the rig on over to one and give it a try.

It's hard for me to believe that would be true. We have an 07 Ellipse and both filler tubes accept the larger nozzles.

Finhawk,
Congrats on your new 42E. I just ordered the 2013 42E, so you will have to let me know what items you discover. We pick it up in Forest City in early October (i hope). They all are on the Freightliner "P" chassis which has the same fuel tank. All of them, to my knowledge, have the large fillers so you can use the truck pump. I know for a fact the 40U has the large filler so why would the 42E not have it?
I do know the large fillers will sometimes "kick off" when you try to fill with them. Sometimes you have to pull back on the filler and slowly pull the handle to get them started. Maybe that is what they were talking about??
Enjoy your new motor home and let us know how you like it. I am climbing the walls to start learning about all the new features.

Not true filled up many times at truck stops from both sides. You will find that to get DEF in some cases I have had to pull in backwards.

I have no problem, except for maybe a little splash when full. Just set nozzle on the slowest setting possible.

Rream raises a good point. I heard they moved the DEF tank to the driver side instead of the passenger side on the 2013. I guess they recognized the problem.
Regarding the tank opening, it sounds like you received some bad info.

Only the tag axle has the DEF tank on the driver's side. Hopefully they will find a way to move it for the other chassis. I was told by Freightliner at GNR they will look at that. They said they put the tank on the passenger side before there were filling pumps at truck stops.

Olive,
Good catch. I looked up the 36 and 40's and they indeed are on the passenger side. Only the 42's are on the driver side. Bummer...
