new leak

I've searched using the find method and after reading alot of pages im still not sure of the answer. I have developed a leak that looks like it came from upper part of the windshield. From what I have read the clearance lights is a good place to start. I see where many members fixed theirs there but after taking the lights out i dont see how water can get into mh from there. The place where the lights go is molded into cap and the wires enter the recess from the top of recess. So the only hole i see is at the top and water would have to travel upward to get into the mh. I thought there would be a big hole that the lights fit in but other than where the wires enter in it theres not. So here are my 2 questions. If my lights are the same design as most others how does water enter in mh( I can see where the water could get behind the light but not enter the mh). My second question is how does the rubber strip that goes around the outside of the windshield come off and go back on. I can pull it back alittle but dont want to pull it off untill I know how to replace. Any help would be app. jdsr

jdsr, as discussed in the chat forum tonight, your leak could be coming from rust around the windshield frame. Take it to a professional. Glass companies generally don't do the rust repair, so call around to find out who can do both for you.

I just read an early post about someone cleaning the metal off and sealing the top section after priming the metal. Only use urathine or windshield sealant. He also took out the clip that holds the rubber trim in place. I found a leak on my antana. The bat wing was very loose. It did not have the rubber seal or the washers. It only leaked when the ant. was down and the nose was down while parked. The base had a good seal The way I determined it was not the lights or windshield was to tape the lights and top black trim with clear 3 m packing tape "It looks like duct tape but comes off eaiser" for a couple of days while parked in the yard. It still leaked! I also sealed the marker lites with clear sealant. One was leaking. I also have earthenbond tape on the top cap, so I know it is sealed good. Im not going to try to do any glass repairs but if it leaks around the ws and I can caulk it , I want to try that. Im just trying to find out how to take off rubber trim to look at it but I want to make sure I can reinstalle it to.

well I found the leak and its around windshield. Has anyone used caulk? what kind and did it work? BTW , the rubber trim comes off by removing 3 screws and thats it. piece of cake

Suggest you go to the photo section and look at the windshield removal and fix done by "SteveG", might help you.

thanks ITHrnK, I did and I am doing everything but removing the ws. I pulled rubber trim and then pulled the track that holds it in.I have alittle rust so I grinded it off and I just finished painting it. I bought ws sealent and will caulk it tomorrow. Instead of using dbl side tape to install track I think I might just use the ws caulk. I THINK it will hold better. I hope. I believe I read where someone else used caulk to install track.

I also used a small board across the track with tape on the top and tape on the glass to help hold the track in unill the sealant set up

good idea. I tried to seal it today and I must have got bad or old caulk because I couldnt get it to come out of tube. I destroyed the tube and the windshield place is closed today so I guess I will have to wait till monday. Im still debating on using caulk or dbl side tape to hold the track in. Any ideas on a good brand of dbl tape. The 3m walmart sells doesnt seem to be strong. thanks
