Mast length

Does anyone happen to know the length of the mast on the CB antenna that came with an 02 Winnebago Adventurer?

I've lost mine.

Thanks,

Ron

The Winnebago part number is 123256-01-000.
I would check with Lichtsinn's. Looks like it is a 24" loaded antenna.

Mine is a base loaded and all that is missing is the steel mast. I think I have some old steel masts but I don't know how long to cut them.

That was the main reason I posted in the CB Forum and someone moved it here

I thought someone in CB & Ham radio would have a better idea on antennas

Thanks,

Ron

You're going to need someone with a SRW meter to adjust the length of the antenna.

The Antenna Mast

Ron & Dee, Sorry looks like I when the wrong direction. I now remember the one on our 03 Journey was a wire. The correct part number is 123256-01-000 and the mast is 590+/-3 mm. Here is the drawing. I have friends in low places at Winnebago, hope this helps.

But you still need to get it checked fro proper SWR (standing wave ratio). Transmitting with a wrong SWR can kill the finals in the radio. You adjust the SWR by changing the length of the antenna.

Ron and Dee,
Good luck on getting the one that you want. Winne and Itasca installed a short, spring loaded unit right from the factory on several hundred, if not several thousand coaches. I did the same exact search as you're doing now and actually called Lichtsinn and talked with the parts exec there and he didn't even know that Winne had changed that antenna, three or four times. The present one they have as a replacement for anyone who want's one from them can be purchased at any C/B store or, any place on line. It is a 24" stiff, "really stiff" mast. I believe it's a 24" "Fire Stik" but, not sure.

I ended up getting two different models because I have a clearance problem with where we park our coach at home. My present antenna is only 8" (yes, that's EIGHT INCHES, NOT EIGHT FEET) high. While the range is effected by the limited height, it works absolutely great for vehicle to vehicle which, is the primary reason I have one anyway. I got it from an online C/B store and it was very reasonable. Around $11.00 if I recall. Just a suggestion Sir.

Thanks for the suggestions. The 8" sounds good because I don't like hitting all of those low lying limbs that go CLUNK CLUNK

For now though, I think I will just replace the mast. I don't do any talking, keep the squelch turned up all the way, so I don't have to listen to all of the chatter

Well Sir, good luck. As stated, I tried desperately to find the original mast and mount because of my parking limitations. I need a real flexible antenna due to low clearance in my R/V cover. The 8" works fantastic for that. I hope you find the original mast as I looked all over the internet, Winne and even called what is left of any C/B supplies stores in our part of the state. No luck.

I just need the steel whip, as some people call it.

Keeping my squelch all the way up, only people who are close and need to notify me if they see something wrong can tell me. Like the Trucker who told me one time, that I was going to run out of blinker fluid before I got to Florida

I thanked him an turned my turn signal off

Got my replacement antenna, $19 from Amazon. WOW, it's rated for 50 watts Anybody have a 50 watt amplifier they want to sell?

I'm having trouble with the SWR, seems a little high at 2 to 1 across the 40 channels. I started out with 4 to 1 and tuned the rings as far as they would go.

Oh well, I just mainly listen anyway

Ron

Check the SWR very carefully, if the SWR is higher on channel 40 than channel 1 you need to shorten the antenna. Like wise if the SWR is higher on channel 1 than on channel 40 you need a longer antenna.

The only adjustment the antenna has is the rings. I guess I could actually cut the top of the antenna off.

Usually in the past I have found when the SWR is high all across the channels, there is usually a bad ground but I cant find where the ground is for this antenna

Thanks,

Ron

Will a standard FireStik 24" antenna work on a Winnebago Fiberglas roof?

NGP antennas ground to the radio through the braided wire only. As Zippo said, the rough adjustment is steel rod length. The rod may be slid up/down in the mount as required. I have had to cut 1/8" off the rod and begin again, but measure SWR twice_cut once! No do-overs.
Instead of that antenna, I decided to use a Francis Pre-tuned CB antenna, mounted on the ladder if I can decide how to run 51' of coax......
