Lippert Slide new design

While visiting the Tampa RV show I was interested in looking at the Lippert slide mechanisms. Many Winnebago/Itasca coaches had the original Lippert machined Aluminum slide Gears screwed to the side of the slide, which were not tollerent of the slide being out of square and had a high failure rate.
One coach had the new style Lippert Rack style stainless steel gear that floated via a connecting bracket attached to the outside edge of the slide. It will operate similar to the "Power Gear" slide Gear that is mounted under a slide. This new design looks like a real improvement, but what about those that are stuck with the original design. Can or will the manufacturer update the older style units?

Short of a class action lawsuit, I do not believe Winnebago will develop or provide owners any alternative or retrofit. We are simply stuck with their design/engineering mistake, stuck with continuing failures, stuck with repair costs, stuck with down time (meaning the coach is in the shop waiting on parts), or at the very least using the coach with a slide unable to deploy. My 2 cents...

LCI Electronics

We are currently at the Quartzsite Rv event and I talked to the Lippert Rep asking questions I read on the forum. He advised to view Lippert Componets web sight " lci1.com ". Also use this customer service number answered 24/7 (574-537-8900). This number is good as on Saturday the Lippert system would not work on a friends 2014 Thor Rv and a rep answered the emergency line and gave him direction to get his Lippert system reset and operating.
Good luck and waiting to read follow-up responses from you all.

I can not go to Quartzite but I would like someone there to ask the Lippert reps if they are aware of the new Rack and pinion Lippert set-up with the free floating rack gear. There is no mention of it on the Website, only the old style that is noted for failing.

What we saw at the Tampa show is the new power gear

Slide that looks like it works the same way as Lipert.

I wounder what the difference is behind the slide seal .

I think Winnebago was PO at lipert and must have had

power gear design a similar type System.

I ask the Lippert Electronics your question; I was told Lippert is in the process of acquiring Power Gear that developed the new rack and pinion with free floating rack gear. This system is very new and not on the web yet as it is still Power Gears.
That's what I learned here in QUARTZSITE.
Contact Power Gear for more info,
574-254-5625. Hope that is good info for you.

The Randall, the parts drawing shows a slideout change on 1-12-15 but the gear racks look the same, still Lippert.

It was supposed to leave the factory today assuming good weather.

Lippert slide mechanism

I cannot imagine anyone purchasing a coach with this slide system. We were looking at new coaches and ruled out any with this system. I feel sorry for any that have this system on their coach, as far as any resale of the units. When out of warranty, what will it cost to replace the system with an updated "RELIABLE" system? Will the Extended Warranty providers also get wise to the defective systems and exclude coverage on those systems?
