Cool Kind of dumb question

I have a kind of dumb question, I have a 2006 Journey 39K and I have all kinds of dirt and stuff in the floor vents. My problem is how do you get the floor registers off the floor? These are clipped in and not screwed down. I don't want to just start prying things. Any ideas?
Thanks
Raydar

Are they plastic or metal? If no screws they should just pry up with a standard screwdriver. Pry equally on all 4 corners.

The top is metal but the bottom looks like it might be plastic?

They could be held in place a couple different ways. The ones on our 2001 Adventurer had a Phillips head screw at either end. The ones in our 2013 Adventurer have a strip of adhesive along either side.

We regularly took the ones out of our 2001 to clean the dog food, dust and sand out of the duct. We haven't had to remove the ones from our 2013 yet because we keep them closed to avoid getting dirt n the ducts. When we do I'm not sure if we'll replace the adhesive strips or find another way to hold them in place.

After several years of regularly removing the registers from our 2001 Adventurer we went to home depot and purchased some that could be closed when not in use. We still had to remove them from time to time, but the frequency was greatly reduced.

Thanks Niceguy9605 and Hikerdogs for the ideas, I've tried prying but not real hard. If I can figure out how to get some pictures up loaded it may give a better idea. I'm still a newbe at this site.

I'd like to replace a few of the floor vents in my motorhome. Does anyone know if Winnebago/Itasca uses standard-sized home vents, or are they proprietary to the RV industry? All my floor vents are fastened down with two screws.

Thank you. RT

The floor vents in both our motorhomes have been standard home size vents. As I mentioned in an earlier post we replaced the originals in our 2001 Adventurer with some off the shelf from Home Depot.

RAYDAR your vents look exactly like the ones in our 2013 Adventurer. They have a sealant strip (probably put in place with a caulking gun) along both sides. Try sliding a putty knife along the sides between the floor and the vent to break the seal.

The floor vents are standard house type. Lowes, Home Depot, etc will have replacement.
Remove then and look on the under side they will measure 2" wide by X long or 4" by X long
"X" will be 10 or 12 inches
If your existing are really dirty you may not see the Phillips head screws at each end.

Yup the floor vents in my RV were standard house size and about 1/2 house quality, Lowes/Home Depot had what I wanted to replace 'em with, I took the damper out of the replacements (Well most of them).

Mine are screwed down (original) new ones did not have screw holes but to be honest, Im thinking about omitting the screws.

A small flat pry bar about 7" long works best for getting the ones up that are stuck down.

I use plastic putty knives, different sizes. Work your way around the vent; they bend easily.

Thanks everyone, it was double-faced tape holding them on. I started lifting them gently and the tile started to lift also. All clean now and we might just change them out to something different. I just hate pulling on things cause they break that's why I came to those who are in the know!

My vent is connected to the furnace by an insulated duct that runs along the chassis frame. Totally out in the elements. Also found to need new zipties to secure the insulation. If yours is similiar you can work from the underside and reconnect when finished.

My copilot wanted new floor vents when we updated our floors ... I took her to the local Lowe's and Menard's ... she was disappointed in the choice of colors ... SOOOO ... visited the spray paint department ... selected a metallic color that matched the new floor ... little action with a wire brush ... 3 coats of paint on each ... reinstalled ... VOILA ... happy copilot ...

They have been down for about 1 1/2 years ... they show very little wear ... I have enough paint to give them another shot whenever the copilot says ...

To keep your ductwork clean, buy a package of floor register filters at the same hardware store. Some will say these filters will cause the furnace to fail. Guess I was extremely lucky then, because I used them in our last 5er for 8 years and the furnace was still working fine when we sold it. We're not full-timers, but rather half-timers-on the road about 6-8 months a year.
