Help with broken front door scissor!

The soft metal fastener that joins the door scissor just fell out. Got to hit the road Monday to go home from AZ. The '16 Journey is out of warranty. So, I'm on my own. I've heard of people using a ballpeen hammer to flare out the end that sticks through. Need some "MacGyver" help from you guys until I can order a replacement. Is this a dealer only part or can I source one out? Looks like they are pricey, around $150.

You could drill and tap the rivet end and use a machine screw w/washer. Or a machine screw, nut, and metal tube to keep the hinge apart.

You are correct, I purchased a hinge unit for my friends '12 Meridian from the factory, $220.

I don't think that will work. The spacing between the top of the door and frame is pretty tight not to mention the screen.

The rivets that hold the arm assembly to the frame are pop rivets, 1/8" dia.
The big rivet that wears out on the fulcrum of the arm is a soft steel 1/4" thinners rivet. This rivet's life can be extended by reseating it with a hammer and anvil or dolly. Can be don in place on the door.

Our door got caught with a gust of wind and popped the rivet loose. I just took the scissor arm off the door, put the rivet on my vice, and beat the crap out of it with a hammer. That fixed it and it's held up nicely since.

That is basically what I just did. Removed the arm and put it on the concrete apron and beat the crap out of it. It is now working better than it ever has. Hopefully, it will last like yours!

I got the manufacturer's part number when I had a Meridian. A Winnie dealer wanted more than $200 for it. The manufacturer is PTL Engineering in Lapeer, MI. I called them and they supplied the part to me and charged me $85 (and billed me, to boot!)

On my Tour, the same thing happened. I happened to have some stainless steel cable ties (like plastic zip ties) that I got from a NAPA store. They wrap quite nicely around the spindle where the split metal washer was. I did it more than a year ago and it's still going strong. The cost for the cable ties was not a lot.
