Have you reupholstered or replaced your captain's chairs?

We are victims of the infamous fake Ultraleather that is beginning to delaminate on our Flexsteel furniture. I understand this has happened across many manufacturers that use FlexSteel and Villa, so a lot of RVs have been affected.

Today we went to see an automotive upholstery guy and I lugged home an armload of fabric/vinyl/leather samples after swooning at the approximate estimated cost. (To be revised upward once the fabric has been selected.) Then got online to compare pricing for replacement chairs and got another sticker shock. Reupholstery of our existing chairs is minimally cheaper than just buying new ones, and either option will mean a couple of months of waiting.

All that to ask... have you replaced or reupholstered your captain's chairs? Were you pleased with the outcome? Any recommended suppliers? Thanks.

I've seen covers (pre-made) that cover these seats. I'd think that might be a less expensive option than custom made, but not sure. I think I may be a year or 2 away from having this issue.

Yeah, FlexSteel will sell replacement covers for $375 each, then I have to find someone to install them. I think we are going to just buy two new captain's chairs from Bradd-Hall.

Well, just to finish this discussion... we ended up ordering replacement "skins" from FlexSteel in Ultra Leather. We did replace them ourselves in about 4 days of DIY. They came out pretty well for amateurs!

Thanks, Thom. It wasn't that hard to do but it was time-consuming. (And we never want to do it again. )

Wow,
$675 each, just for the skins? And how much is a new Captains chair?

Sorry... the $675 was a typo; should have been $375 for the driver and $395 for the passenger seat for Ultra Leather skins. New Flexsteel chairs were over $2k with shipping and tax.
