front end trouble

went to move the coach after winter storage and noticed the front driver's side tire and wheel assembly has shifted to the front of the unit to the point it is not driveable and hits the front fender when turning the wheel. Any ideas??? 2012 36M Winnebago Journey.

Sounds like you've been hit and the coach moved off its frame.

Picture of the MH would sure help..this sounds very odd. Like the body dropped or something or a spring has moved??

The motor home is a 2012 Winnebago Journey. The end of Dec. 2012 we brought it home from having the tow bar assembly put on it. We backed it down the drive way (which is on a hill and stone pad) and backed it into the pole barn. It sat there until this weekend. I pulled it straight out of the pole barn, de-winterized it and started to back it into the pole barn until our first trip (in about 2 weeks). As I was turning the wheel to get it closer to the pole barn wall the wife said stop! The front tire is hitting the front fender. Sure enough it was! Freightliner is sending a tech to the house hopefully tomorrow to see what the issue is. We can't even have it towed out of the pole barn and up the drive way for fear the back of the coach will drag!!!!!

^^^ Is it possible that you suspension is not airing up all the way? ^^^ Suspension air leak? Didn't run long enough to air up from sitting during the winter? Etc? Just a though based on your latest post.

DeWat, We tried letting the coach run to get the air in the system but that seems to be working fine. We will let you know what the tech thinks! Keeping our fingers crossed.

Hopefully it is just the bags not airing up. Is it only the one corner, or are all the tires near the fender edges?

Maybe cycling the jacks? I will look for your update, as I have the same coach.

Front end issues

The tech came to the house today and found the pin connecting some spring was too short and came out and caused the front end to move forward. I checked for recalls on freightliner and there does seem to be a recall! Check it out and I will send more info. when we get back from the freightliner dealer tonight.

WOW!!! What if that can happen while on an interstate or steep and curvy mountain?

Well here is the verdict, Freightliner was here to look at it, after a HUMMM, he found the trouble to be a wedge that was installed to align the front end came loose due to the axle pin not being long enough which caused the axle to move. After removing the wedge and re-aligning the axle and tightening everything I was able to drive it to the Freightliner repair shop for permanent repairs !!!!

This Freightliner Chassis should of not even made it out of they factory if I am reading your last post right. You and your family are very lucky that this was found while you were at your home! I can't believe your axle came loose and moved that much, you are lucky you found it. I hope you get it fixed right(alligned right) and have no more problems.

Saxton,
Was that the origional factory alignment that went bad? Or was the shim added after it left the factory?
Thanks

If that shim was installed by a front end shop.....I would certainly never return other than to raise some hell....really sloppy work and dangerous...obviously the shop tech did not know what he was doing......those pins are not that long, just long enough to sit in the saddle...

I will be interested what the final result is.

I asked FCCC and they said there were no open campaigns on my coach.

Here is the final outcome. This was a Lazy Days issue when they aligned the coach in June of 2012. Thank goodness the problem showed up in our driveway! Lazy Days paid the bill after they saw the pictures Freightliner took and sent to them! So all is good again. Lets hope it stays that way!! Thanks to all who responded and hope someday we can assist someone!

That shim must have been installed to alter the caster...I wonder if you will notice a difference in the handling now or hopefully Freightliner fixed it right.
