Also tell Pat in Gaffney that they are pressing you for additional stuff. She will pass it on to the people that need to have that info to make it stop.

Your best defense is to be very prepared when you go into a shop with all needed info OR go to Gaffney for your service

Today I spoke with a lady in the service area at Gaffney. She quoted a price of $1100 for a M3 service. I called Transwest and they are still calculating what it will cost. They said they will call me with a price tomorrow. Somehow I don't think it is going to be $1100.

Rex - I think $1100 is ball park for what Freightliner Tolleson was charging for M3.

Most of these places are charging ~$100 an hour for service and I think a properly done M3 service should take one tech a full day. Then you throw in the air filter, hydraulic filter, etc. and there's your kilobuck.

I called Gaffney regarding the coolant change interval, as I was confused as well. My manual states change at 36 months/75kmiles.

Here's what FL told me: The Fleetguard coolant, which is what is put in at the factory, is NOT extended life coolant. If the SCA's are checked every 6 months, then the change interval is 5 yrs/100k miles. If the SCA's have never been checked, then the technician told me that the coolant should be changed every 2 years/24k miles.

Hope this solves this mystery.

Just called Freightliner (Gaffney) and asked about the coolant. According to the dude (Marcus) all Freightliner chassis are shipped from FL with the extended life coolant and it should be flushed and replaced every 5 years provided the SCA has been checked every 25,000 miles OR 6 months as stated by Pusherman above.

Pusherman has the same rig as us, but one year newer with a Cat instead of a Cummins and his manual states 36/75,000 for coolant change. My manual states 24/24,000 UNLESS you have the extended life coolant which according to a footnote in my manual ALL FL chassis have been shipped with since model year 2002.

Shop rate does come into play with the final cost of work done for sure. Remember IF you belong to FCOC and go to Gaffney there is a discount involved. The FCOC discount doesn't apply at other shops however. We asked but we did end up getting a discount after all. Goodwill discount.

I still have to say for all your questions etc go to a Camp Freightliner and ask Mike anything plus you will learn more than you ever thought possible. It's time and money well spent. Especially if you want to do any work on the chassis/engine yourself. Also you learn just what to ask a shop when you do need maintance or repair.

I wish we could go to Gaffney, but it's a hike from Colorado and not in the cards for this year.

Still no M3 cost quote from Transwest. I called and asked to speak with the service manager, Jim, who said they cannot quote a package price because every coach is different. ??

He said I will have a quote based on the hourly rate by tomorrow noon.
