I've noticed that the front drapes (for the front window) are getting a bit yellowed on the outside portion. The owner's manual says that they "may" be washable, but says it is safe to dry clean (expensive). Does anyone know if the drapes can be machine washed without damage?

I washed our drapes many a time with great results. I just washed them but NEVER dried them. I was afraid they'd shrink. When they were finished washing I'd just hang them back up and let them dry hanging there.

Also I bought an extra set of drapes at the Winnebago Surplus store in Forest City for $15 just so I'd have them. When we sold the rig both sets of drapes went with it.

Thank you very much for your reply. DW was concerned about washing them due to possible shrinkage. We'll give it a try. Sounds like we will have to make it a point to stop at the surplus store next time thru the area too.

Have you tried "Dryel" home dry cleaning system? Sound more like sun damage (yellowing) and the curtains may fall apart when cleaned.

Idon't think the damage is sun damage. We noticed it when a small portion got wet from rain and came out a much brighter white when it dried. I think they are just dirty. We think we will give washing a try. The curtains don't seem to be brittle or feel as though they are about to fall apart as would be expected due to sun damage. Of course if they are damaged in the wash, well she gets to redecorate!

I would wash them in one of the OXY cleaners.

I'll pull them downthis weekend and we'll give them a run through the washer. If it doesn't work I'll be back to find a place for cheap replacements.
