Door Check Assembly

Our 2008 40TD had a flimsy entry door check assembly that would not hold the door open and when exiting, allowed the door too quickly - I had my RV tech check into a replacement assembly and the cost was way too much for such a simple mechanism. Friend turned me no to Tiffin (Red Bay, AL) and I purchased a much more robust door check for $30! Our entry door has a door check that will hold our door open in a hurricane

Do you by chance have any pictures and/or part numbers from Tiffin?

Thanks!

I don't have a part number as it was picked up by one of our RV buddies when they were in Red Bay -- this is a heavy duty door check and it has held the door open during some heavy winds.

I too would like to see pics of the remedy you came up with. I clicked on the link that was attached to your last post and it came up with something other than what I think you wanted it to. Now I find the link has been eliminated. Many of us Winne and Itasca owners have had door catch/holder/strut issues and have various remedies so, we'd like to see yours.

Just in case you'd like to post them but don't know how, there's several sourses available for that procedure. I use Photo Bucket as an online storage facility. When ever I take pictures that represent what I'm working on at the time, I upload them to Photo Bucket and then, when I'm in a thread, I open Photo bucket, grab the ones I want posted and put them on the thread I'm on at the time. Just a suggestion here.

I have already spent money direct from the supplier that Winnie uses. Even though I paid a lot less than I would have from the dealer, it was way too much for a small metal spacer that was broken.

I am interested in a better solution for the next time it breaks.

I'm not aware of any link that I added to the original post -- no indication of an edit?? I'm attaching three pictures of the check assembly. I don't have a part number as an RV buddy picked up the parts in Red Bay.

ChiefJohn, that looks similar to the original equipment stop for your 2008 Vectra (see page 156 of the 2008 Vectra 40TD Parts Catalog). How is it different? Is it just sturdier, does it lock open more securely, any other salient points?

Thanks.

The Tiffen door check is a much more robust and quality product -- the arms are wider and made of a heavier metal.

The photo looks similar, but not the same as the Winnie version. I took a couple of photos of mine. Note the difference. The Winnie version has a non-replaceable metal ring that breaks. Its around the standoff on the right and goes into the circular socket shown in the first picture. The one from Tiffin appears to not have that ring and socket design, which makes it sturdier, in my opinion.

Can anyone who has it get the name of Tiffin's manufacturer off it? The Winnie one is made by PTL Engineering. You save more than 50% by buying it direct, like I did.

Michael,
Suggest you call the Tiffin Parts folks and explain what you're looking for. As I stated earlier, my new assembly was about $30.
