My porch light doesn't light up under the steps light the Kwikee light does, I have found it to be a valuable 'fall protector' when stepping out of the coach at night carrying my Katie as I did many a night.....

My brain hurts!

Kent, think of one of those 9 LED lights that are 3.5" long. I cut it off and highly modified it so it still has a screw on end and is ~1" long.

All the switches in the panel by my door has are right/left, not up/down.

The only time my Amber light is on is when the switch is set to the automatic in/out position. The only time it will go out is if the battery goes dead. The ignition SW has nothing to do with it. If the engine is running, I cannot keep the steps out. However, if I close the steps, then put the step switch in the "Alway Out" position, the steps will stay in, unless the engine is started, then it goes into the door controlled in/out mode.

Also there is a little light above the switches by the door that comes on and off with the door opening/closing. It is a three position switch. The other positions are for the patio light and off.

Kwikee steps are designed to make your brain hurt. I keep a 2-step plastic step stool in the compartment next to the door. I use it for nearly everything from washing the windshield to sitting down when I'm pawing thru the compartments .... and for entry/exit when the RV is stored (close quarters and sick of kicking the steel steps).

I make sure when I'm working on the steps or the light, I latch the door open. They could mangle an arm if the wind slammed the door shut.

Absolutely! Been pinched more than once by that step going in and out while troubleshooting issues.

I read all the warnings. I've been startled, when inside my Breeze, and the door slammed shut... many of times.

I know they are torque sensitive and stop when I put my foot on them before they are fully open, but that's not an arm.

For Kent. I could have used smoke and mirrors, but this was a quick daytime project that took... maybe an hour. One of those "just to see if I can" thingies.

Great picture! I see it really does light up a lot better than the amber light too.

Thanks Dunner!

How did you change the bulb? Does the amber lens cap unscrew? I haven't been able to change my failed bulb.

Don't know anything about a timer because anytime I'm paying attention to it, we're out camping and the step is locked in extend mode

Same here!!!!

Take a standard screwdriver and pry downward where the amber meets base(white). Pops right off. Press firmly to get er' back on.

I got better ones with the LED overhead light on. Makes the pic look better.

Doing some amp measurements right now. BRB.

I set mine so it stays out, light off. I have a porch light.

It would drive me nuts to set it so the the step would go out and in every time the door was used, timer or no timer.

Very easy to do; just un-plug the single connector that goes to the light. Mine is a red blade male/female connector. For the LED light, I just slipped a wire between the two and plugged it back together. Walllaaa... Let there be light.

I leave mine in the in/out mode when working on it for short durations at home or if I plan on moving it at camp. If it's an all-day project, it stays out till job end.

Kent's going to like this. It's with the LED strip replacement for the tubes.

Great picture!!

Me too, I do the same thing. Been working on the tinting so I just leave them out, but could put them back on auto.

Of course, having said this I just noticed that my orange step light doesn't come on at all anymore--it's either burned out or some wire has come loose. One more thing to work on...

I have my step switch set so that when I turn off the engine the steps are in, and when I open the door they extend and stay that way. No light on. I never change the switch position.

My porch light lets me see the steps when it is dark.

Curious. Do folks set it so the steps go out and in each time the door opens and closes?

Just wondering.
