Day/Night Shade Question

I posted this on another forum but thought I'd better ask some Winnie owners too.
Our day/night shades will not stay up in our coach. I did a search and found some threads that deal with replacing the sting. However, our string is not broken. The dang things just will not stay up, the pleats do not fold like they are supposed to, etc.
My question is, does anyone know if we have to replace the strings or can just take them down and adjust the tension on the spring that is at the top. I went to Winnie's web page and found their instructions for replacing the string and saw the spring.

No need to take them down! There is a simple adjustment that can be made to tighten them up. My mechanic showed me how to do it, but I don't quite recall how at this writing. I am sure someone will respond with the correct adjustment procedure.

I do know that what I have done in the past is to wrap the string around the plastick knob an extra revolution, and this tightened them right up.

Add one loop of cord at a time to the spool until the blind just stays up.

To restore the crisp pleats spray the blind fabric with spray starch and put the blind up. Let sit for 24 hours.

Those plastic spools at the bottom of the blind, attached to the wall, are made up of 2 pieces that lock together when the screw in the middle is tightened down. Back that screw out about 1/8" and then pull out on the outer part of the spool. When pulled out, it should be free to rotate. If it won't rotate, back the screw out till it does. Then just rotate the outer half of the spool till your string is snug, push the outer half back in and tighten the screw.

It's a lot easier to do than it is to explain.

At the risk of being ignorant

I have checked the winnebago website and I cannot find anyplace that tells how to replace broken strings on the shades. Can someone point me in the right direction with a link. Oh by the way don't tighten them down to much or they will break.

This has been posted before but is worthy of review.

We have found the best string for "re-stringing" the day night shades to be a Trolling Line that we obtained at Sportsmans Warehouse.

I am sure it can be found elsewhere also.

Dacron Trolling Line made by Gudebrok of Potttown, PA.

Cost is pennies per yard. Comes in three weights. 30, 50, 80 lb test.

We found the 30 to be the best.

Here is a color diagram of the sting path for a typical day/night shade.

Doing a 'find' on Day Night Shade will also show some threads that have the image.

While the task requires some time and effort it is a satisfying experience.

Your shades are kept up y the tension on the strings. Here's how to adjust the tension.

At the bottom of each string (one on each side of the shade) is a mounting device that has the string wrapped around it. The tension is adjusted by turning the spools.

The way this is done can vary according to the cost of the piece at Winnebago. However, they all seem to have a Phillips head screw that you
loosen, then carefully tighten or loosen as necessary and then retighten. Trial and error is the rule here. Some of the spools have detents spaced every quarter turn which makes them very easy to adjust and retighten.

Pretty easy to do once you get the hang of it.
