I've searched the forum with no positive results

Where in the heck can one purchase the day/night shade grommets that Winnebago failed to install in my, and numerous others, motorhomes?

The grommets, I'm clueless about this and trying to find out if I need to be looking for something.

I believe the grommets they are referring to go in the holes that the strings pass through in the rails. Their purpose is to stop the cord abrading on the rough plastic holes.

I could be wrong, and if so someone will correct me, but I'm sure I've seen posts about this in the past.

Just had to restring two of my day/night shades - the two big windows. What I found is that the grommets in the middle section were installed on the wrong side of the aluminum bar. I popped them out and pushed them back in on the opposite side (so the string makes the 90 deg bend around the grommet). Mine wore out right at the middle section where they string was bending around the rough drilled edge of the aluminum. I read that this was happening to others too - possibly a large batch built in 2003 time frame.

Here's a picture of the grommet next to a penny:

Instead of using a cloth string I used this 60lb monofilament leader from WalMart. About $4 for 55 yards. It works very smooth and quiet too. It's clear so it goes with any color and you practically can't even see it. Only concern I have is if stretches and won't hold the tension over time. Ok after 3 weeks so far.

Happy Trails,
Duner

Good to know. I'll be calling Winnebago. I tried to find some at WalMart. LOL We have had to restring 3 so far. Well, really 4, but the cat ate the strings on one of them. LOL

We had the strings break on three blinds shortly after our Adventurer was only a year old. The grommets were in place but the holes that the grommets fit in had not been deburred and quickly frayed the string. Fixmyblinds.com carries blind stringing supplies with instructions. We opted to incease the string size slightly and,of course, deburred the grommet holes. We now carry a supply of strings and the instuctions in the RV if a field string replacement became necessary.

I had the same problem with my blinds. I called Winnebago and they said that they made the blinds and aware of the problem. They mailed me new grommets that covered the burrs and a heavier string. You might want to check with Owner Relations.

Good Luck

We are trying very heavy fishing line (80lb??). The line is as thick as the string that was there. Our hope is that because it is smooth rather than stringlike, it will last longer. I guess time will tell.
