I've been taking mine to a local repairman who charges me $50.00 each time I bring him one. He too, said that the reason for breakage was because the factory left burrs on the holes that the strings go through. My biggest problem is getting the blinds re-installed in the coach. What a hassle!

I taught myself how to restring them and dince then, I have done several of mine and some for a friend. There is no easy way to do them, but the best way is to spread them on a large table and take them apart very carefully. above all, remember which way all the strings run. I use 130 lb test fishing line from Cabela's.

As mentioned in an earlier post, I have strips of Velcro type stuff that sticks to itself in my kit. They are long enough that I can work on the shade and move things back and forth but not have it open up on the table and slinky itself to the floor. When everything is done I wrap the shade tight for reinstallation so my one and only hassle is to catch that friggin center clip. When secure and the strings are reasonably secure, THEN I release the Velcro.

You're certainly correct. There is no easy way. But, after a couple of them, it does get easier. Is that "monofiliament" line you're using or, a fiber type line?

I have sort of the same principle while working on them. I remove all the worn or broken strings/cords and then, I "clamp" the pleats together with those plastic, spring loaded hand clamps from Home Depot. they work just perfect for keeping things in order while I attempt to re-string the little beast. When I get real lucky, a set of holes in the pleats all line up and, I can literally push a string/cord right through all the pleats from the center bar up through and out the top bar and all the pleats in between. So, when I'm all done, with all the new cords, I tried something like you do. I tied two loops, about a foot in diameter. I put each loop about 6" from the end and that lets them open up about a foot.
Then, I carry them into the coach like that and that allows me to gain access to the screw holes on each end and that pesky center clip without having the pleats in the way yet, they don't "slinky" all the way down to the floor. So, when the screws are installed and the center clip is clipped, I then preliminarily put some tension on the cords. Then, I cut the loops. I still have to re-adjust the tension a couple of times to get it right but, that method seems to work for me.

I too would like to know what kind of fishing line works best. Mono, braided, Dacron? Thanks

I have restrung every window on a previous Journey and half of the shades on my Ellipse, fixmyblinds.com has been very helpful. A friend purchased day night shades from Lowes for his Journey made by Levelor for less than the MCD's and they look great and so far work perfect, there are no strings visible, it won't take much more for me to switch.
