Dash air

Hello I am sure you will soon understand that this is my first time. We have a 2003 Sightseer, 30'. The dash air has low flow and I am sure I have traced the problem to the return air filter ahead of the passenger feet. Have no idea if this filter has ever been and most likely not. It is completely plugged. My problem is that I am not quite sure on how to get it out. I cracked a corner of the plastic by trying to pull it out with a hook. Don't want to do that again. So anyone got any ideas. It sure has been hot here in Texas. Thank you. Dar

That's not a filter. It's the foam seal on the damper door for recirculation mode. It should open when "Max A/C" is selected.

Mine was stuck open. The vacuum solenoid that operates it is exposed to the right front tire splash. Mine was rusted in place.

But, you should have good airflow with or without recirculation selected.

Gotta keep looking.

Tks, I did not know that and I will find the solenoid and see if this is rusted also. Thank you for the info.

Here's a picture looking up at the HVAC from the outside:
(Someone else's picture - with a heater core leak)

This is where the air comes from when it's set to pull in outside air. The vacuum can on the right controls the damper door.

And a better picture of the whole heater box:

You can see the inside and outside inlets, and the vacuum can.

Thanks Tim,
Your the man! The vacuum can was right where you said it was. Put a vacuum tester on it and it tested good. Closer inspection showed the blue vacuum line badly deteriorated for about 16". So I will be repairing that and my guess is I will have the airflow back. Ill let you know when I get done. My thank to you again.

I have a 30 ft 2004 Sightseer and I too have been wondering about the air flow on mine. On max a/c a good part of the air comes out the defrost ducts, I get much better air flow from the vents using the Normal setting. I opened the dash top and can see the vacuum can that directs the air flow or seems to anyway. I'll have to check the vacuum actuator too. Hadn't had a lot of time to check it yet.

Check the blue line under the hood. Had the same issue and replaced about 2 feet of line works perfect. That line controls the max air door on the passenger side.
