Dash A/C Repair
My dash A/C in my Winnebago Tour is no longer blowing cold air. It is only slightly cool.
Does anyone have any recommendations on where to have this fixed? Would an automobile A/C place be able to work on it? Or do I need to bring it to a Camping World or Lazydays for repair? I believe that Freightliner installs the compressor and the rest is done by Winnebago. Any recommendations would be helpful. We are just north of Tampa off I-75.
Thanks,
Bill

My compressor was shot. Had it replaced at Freightliner in Gaffney when the coach was serviced. Freightliner installed the compressor and I suspect the hoses and Winnebago likely do the rest. My compressor was below the alternator.

Slightly cool air would indicate you may just need recharged, if there are no leaks. It is trying to work. As close as you are, I would go to Lazydays instead of any of the other options you gave.

Bob,
Did you know it was the compressor before you went to Gaffney? Or did you just have them check it out? Do they do A/C repair there? I normally bring my coach to Gaffney in the fall for its annual service.
I thought mine was blowing slightly cool air. But I checked it out yesterday and it just felt cool because it was blowing. It is no cooler than just blowing the air.
Thanks,

I had recharged it and it worked but gradually lost the coolant and just wouldnt cool. Folks st Gaffney confirmed and replaced it. It is poorly located in that it is exposed to moisture thrown by the rear axles and mine had significant corrosion. Good luck,

Check the electric cooling fans on the condenser I believe on the left rear side of the coach. These fans quit on my coach on the way home from Nevada with the same affect. It cost me a compressor and fan pair. If they are not running the aircontitioner won't cool.
Like OP said, low on coolent will do the same including damaging the compressor if not repaired.

Thanks all for your replies. I called Pat at the service center in Gaffney and she confirmed that Freightliner supplied just about all of the A/C components, and that they can repair the dash A/C. I will wait until I bring it to them in the fall for my normal service.
Thanks again.

Bill, Be certain that the compressor clutch is engaging when you turn the air on, and as mentioned before, that the fan also comes on when the air is selected. Just a couple of quick and easy things to check before heading for the dealer.

I got the AC repaired at Gaffney when I was there for service. It turns out that there was a sensor that was not connected to anything that was leaking. They replaced it with a plug and recharged the system. I now have cold dash air. [emoji3]

I had a 2009 39Z up until 1 year ago. Mine did that and found 1 condenser fan was out and other one was weak. had to go back a week later and found damp hose going to condenser, that was the leak. leak could be anywhere but likely from compressor to condenser area.
I think I had $1100 in the deal, put in dye, chg, replace both condenser fans, replace hose, re-charge...not that bad really

There are two or 3 levels of A/C repair..
1: Simple re-charge. any A/C place can do it I can do it (And have)
2: Parts replacement: I'd want someone used to working on trucks or RVs
3: Leak seal, see 2
