Check your water pump screws...

Yesterday, in a California SP campground, our Shurflo 4008 water pump pumped some air, then ceased pumping water while I was doing dishes, but continued to make noise.

Investigation showed that all 4 of the stainless steel screws that hold the pump body to the motor casting had vibrated loose and fallen out. I pulled the pump, reinstalled the screws, and reinstalled the pump and everything seems to be OK.

One screw had stripped part of the casting threads, so I had to remove one washer to get it to grab.

The way the casting is made, a person should be able to install longer screws, and jam nuts or lock nuts on the other side to keep this from happening.

Had a similar problem over a month ago, water pump run on without demand, and some of the screws were loose. Not the owner, just the pump. It didn't resolve the problem, but eventually, a few days later and after retightening every line and valve and fitting, it did eventually stop. Never had that happen with a ShurFlo before. Hope it's fixed, it was fine for the rest of the trip.
