Awning Switch Problem - Strange Behavior

My Dometic Weatherpro would not work via the switch at the passenger side console, but using the same switch the Door awning will. And here is the catch, the awning works fine using either the remote or the switch in the storage compartment.

When I use the select switch to point to the door awning and then use the In/Out switch, the door awning works fine. Switching the selector to patio, the In switch works, but not the out.

It's the same switch for both patio and door - so the physical switch works. There are four wires leading from this switch to the control box, should I suspect one of these has shorted or an issue with the control box?

Is there a wiring diagram for the Dometic Weatherpro control box?

I will have to check for voltage and continuity tomorrow.

Two point one options.
1: Bad selector switch
2.0 Loose connection on one of the wires
2.1 bad wire

I have the Diagnostic Service Manual in PDF format. Strangely, it doesn't show the selector switch - maybe Winnie added that?? If you want a copy, reply with your email address or PM it to me.

Don't remember where I got it, so I can't tell you where to download it.

Looking at my Winnie 12V wiring diagram, on the last page, I see connections to "Door Awning" and "Patio Awning". Looks like that's where they interface with the A & E wiring.

I'm thinking they didn't use the A & E extend-retract switches, but used their own selector and extend-retract switch. Probably for appearance continuity with the other Winnie switches and also to prevent operating both awnings at the same time and popping a breaker.

I realize mine is a year older and a different floor plan, but I bet this wiring is the same...

I'm thinking the selector switch has to be good since the 'in' portion of the awning switch still works.

I will confirm it later this afternoon when I'm done with my morning appts.

Solved and Fixed

I studied the wire diagrams plus the electrical guide provided by Winnebago. That guide is very helpful as it names the function of every wire. So looking at the body 12v wiring diagram, I saw that I needed the function of 6 wires on the In/Out switch and 4 on the selector switch. That led me to the FFN wire and number 6 on the plug. I could see that it needed to complete a circuit with the switch with FFV to extend the dolly. So I checked for continuity between the two with the switch activated, and got an open line. Trying the other pairs, for retract and also the door awnings two pairs I had continuity. So with power applied, I used a jump wire from #5-FFV to #6-FFV on the In/Out switch and it worked with the awning extending normally. To confirm I also jumped from the selector switch #3-FFV to #5-FFV on the In/Out and pushed the out side of the switch and that did nothing. I had already confirmed continuity so that was no surprise. Then I jumped #3-FFV on the selector to #6-FFV and again it worked like it is supposed to.

This still confused be a bit as the switch works fine when the selector is on the door awning. So I opened the switch and discovered that it is two switches in one. It actually activates both the patio and door awning at the same time on two internal switches, but only the one selected actually makes a circuit.

I cleaned up the contacts, put it back together and it works great.

Here are some pictures of the switch, notice the two small metal contacts. They had a bit of corrosion that I cleaned up with an eraser and emery board. The springs in the switch seem fine and I am very happy I don't have to order a switch.

Thanks for everyone's help. And thanks Tom for that manual.

Great job, Mike! Those wiring and plumbing diagrams were one of the reasons I bought my Journey many years ago...

Go to this Winnebago link and get them all. In the middle bottom of that page after you select 2005 Journey, will be all the manuals and diagrams.

I will send you the one on the Weatherpro if you send my your email address in a PM.

Thank you Mike as it turned out the @#%&!! wind sensor is bad and there is
no ready replacement of the same type... I would have to up grade to the tune
of around 500 bucks... I will just do it the old fashioned way...
out when I am there - In when I am not...

Sorry to hear that, but then I did not even know I had a wind sensor until I started troubleshooting. I have no idea if it works as I have been just putting it in when I leave. I will have to get the hair dryer out and test it.
