We finally got a 40 footer. we got a 2005 Horizon Itasca. Great shape, very low miles, but after wear and tear, the awning over the entry door will go out a bit and stop. after cool down will go some more. Same coming in. Any suggestions?

What is the make, model number and size of the awning.
I have a 2005 Vectra and the door awning goes out but doesn't want to come in all the way. I found that taking a screw driver and helping it at the front end did the trick. Had it looked at at the Winnebago plant and they tell me that it needs a new motor which is about $200 less than a complete new awning. I'm wondering if I can take the motor out and have it rebuilt or rewound? Not too much to trouble shoot on these awnings from what I've learned
I was quoted over $200.00 for a motor. I took out the old one and had it rebuilt for 35.00
Not many shops will do this but if you make nice they can and will.

My motor wouldn't turn at all. I took it apart following an article on here, cleaned it up, lubed it, put it back together, and it works fine. There's a design problem with water collecting in the bottom of the motor housing. Drill a hole there!

Thanks, I'll try all of the above but if the tear apart and lube doesn't do it, where can I get the rebuild done? I used to go to a place over in L.A. to have my Goldwing starter rebuilt a few years back when I was working in that area but I can't remember just what to look for in an elect. motor rebuild. I'll try googling it I guess...

Clean and lubricate all flex joints (3 on each arm) and it will do wonders
+1 on this. The arms collect a lot of dust/dirt in the joints. Mine was slow and doing similar to yours, and a good dose of silicone spray in the joints cleared things up nicely. Try it before spending a lot of time on anything else.
