Just ordered the Window for in front of the drivers door. $48.00+S&H total of 75.00.

Local glass shop says $175.00 to install. I have the file from Mike in Florida about how to replace the glass, yet I read another post where someone installed the glass without removing the frame. Have searched and still can't find it . Anyone know of this post??? Thanks

Ich,

If you can break the seal between the glass and the frame, I think you probably can change the glass without removing the frame from the body of the coach. I made reference to such in the file. It will take some time, but might prove a little easier than removing the frame.

I would try an exact-o knife or something like that. I'm sure that glass guys have some type of wizzbang tool that would do it.

Good Luck !

Mike

Here's a link to the window replacement document. Blucrabbie has been kind enough to host it for us.

I got the 3M WindoWeld from an auto body parts store. The 3M website has a store locator. The butyl tape came from my local Winnebago dealer.

Hi Ho: I'm probably the one who installed the window without removing the frame. My reply is just tacked on to Mikes. It will probably take a couple of hours for you to do it even without removing the frame, so at that price you can choose to have it done.

I found a flat blade screwdriver removed the black goo in about 5 or 10 minutes and the window just comes out after the outside molding is removed. Of course it was summer and everything was warm (hot).

Mike is the real expert and has done a great job documenting everything he did. He deserves a big "thank you" for finding the required sealants and documenting everything. I printed his mail and started to remove the frame until I realized that was not really my goal.

So far it works just fine. We'll see how long it lasts.

Dirk

I just did my windows on the drivers and passengers side. The two windows on the drivers side I replaced with out removing the assembly. replaced both pieces of glass in about one and a half hours. I followed mikes instructions other than I didn't remove the assembly. Very easy installation.

UPDATE!. Atwood sold the glass division to Duncan Systems (also in Elkhart) Their number is 800-551-9149 talk to Jeanne ext 2019. The cost has gone up since 2008. The new cost for this window is approx $175 + $20 packing + $25 UPS + tax Jeanne is really helpful.

Another UPDATE. Just got a quote from Duncan for the front driver's side stationary window and the passenger side top Vista stationary window, both fogged. The price has remained the same at $175 each, but crating and shipping are up to $80.

Has anyone done the project lately? Looks fairly easy, based on detailed PDF I've downloaded previously.

I did the angle window in front of the driver door window and I used the butyl tape that was suggested. It did not stick properly for me and I almost lost the window. I ended up taking it to an RV glass place and they sealed it in with the caulk they use on windshields. That held it tight.
