WOW!that's bad but that did not happen over a few day's that rust is deep.Man what a mess,I restored old Car's and rust is a very hard thing to stop in that avanced stage.Soda blast prime and repaint Then oil it's a big big job.I would think it can be done but a job for a shop that restores big rig's.Off lease 18wheelers by some makers go into shop's and are redone that way, I have seen the units (Freightliners)they could not be told from new.The unit's are then released or sold as reconditioned fully at a fraction of the new price.I hope You fair well I can't tell You what to do but that's My idea I hope it help's. Bushman..Eh.

Looking at your photos, looks to me like the coach has sat in salt water up to its axles. A local truck dealer tried to sell me a 2004 truck with excessive rust hidden in the undercarriage - turns out the truck had been "flooded" on Galveston Island
Are you sure there's no chance that perhaps this coach was flooded in another market somewhere in Florida before being delivered to Lazy Days?? Just another possibility to consider...

Hi,! Not sure if you've thought of this, but it looks to me as if you may have an electolisys problem. I've seen similar problems on our road equipment at work, and they were traced to bad grounds, especially between motor and frame. Combined w/ a high salt enviroment, this could be a real "killer". I would think that an automotive electrical shop should be able to test this for you. Good luck! CROW

Interesting point. Now you have me wondering if our rust problems in our former Journey (not as severe but ugly) were caused by something like this. It just didn't seem right that virtually the entire undercarriage can rust so quickly.

I have no clue if this is more blue smoke and mirrors but it's an interesting gizzmo that lends itself to the current discussion.

I like your idea Crow, I saw something on this on TV once. Using DC current to eat through steel.

Anyway, check out THIS GIZZMO.

Crow: I think that you are definitely correct. It makes absolute sense given all the other pieces of the puzzle. I've spoken to a corrosion specialist and it appears that the corrosion due to the winter road chemicals encountered on delivery while it sat in humid FL for three months before I took delivery that were not washed off by the dealer upon delivery of the coach could easily have been exacerbated by electrolysis. I am looking into testing the coach now for electrolysis.

Hopefully this thread can stay focused on this subject and not derailed by other OT posts. There have been others who have been helped by this thread and similar threads on other forums by alerting them to this problem. It would be a shame to have this thread derailed.

Thanks for your assistance and all the other assistance offered so far by other forum members.

What we all have learned is that in the PDI we have to roll under the RV to check for rust or get it checked out on a lift before we sign on the dotted line. I think that BBK3 has alerted and opened our eyes to this type of problem. I would have never even thought of it. And darn if we don't even have to check to make sure that they undercoat the vehicle also. I think before I purchase again, I will have to have my brand new rig checked out as if it were a used vehicle. This is such a shame.

Sorry but you've been on these forums for the past year and since last January I posted links to photos that showed the same rust problem with my 04 Journey. I was surprised that so few people really paid attention to the problem.

So we have a clear case of the dealer not following Winnebago protocals for a winter delivery. I may not have this 100% correct but it is my understanding that it is required by Winnebago that a Dealer must immediatly pressure wash the undercarriage of a new coach upon delivery during the winter months.

If the dealer did not follow the rules set by the manufacturer then, in my eyes, he is responsible for the ramifications and all costs involved even if this means providing a replacement coach that has been properly prepped.

You would think that Winnebago would be comming down hard on these dealers that don't follow the rules on this. It is their reputation that is on the line after all.

Regards,

Neil

Neil, after six pages of posts here and countless pages of posts on rv.net,it's hard to know the players without a scorecard.

Let us all wait for the electrolysis report before we do any bashing.

I would be interested in seeing ALL the facts before forming any opinion, which is hard to do in this kind of environment.

As you know,I was contacted by a representative from Winnebago after about THREE posts on this very forum,in regard to my delivery issue.
Not exactly the same issue, but indeed I believe Winnebago reads these forums.

For that reason I find it hard to believe that hasn't happened in this case.

No need to bash anyone,I just hope and pray that this gentleman gets a resolution that he can be happy with.
