Anyone take out bedroom closet to make queen a king bed?

We have a Winnebago Access with a walkaround queen bed. Closets on both sides.

We want to take out the right side closet to make a king bed. There’s a lot of room on the right side so I’ll still be able to walk around.

Curious if anyone has taken out their bedroom closets?

Are the overhead cabinets held up by the side cabinets?

I know there’s a piece of wood inside the overhead cabinets that hangs it up to the ceiling but I’m wondering if the full floor to ceiling closet parts on the right and left sides are needed to help keep that overhead cabinet part up or if they maintain the solid structure of the RV.

Could we cut it at the top so it matches the overhead part, put in a new bottom, modify the door...And voila? We don’t use closets since we put everything in buckets.

King bed is absolutely necessary so we have to figure out a way to make this happen.

Any advice would be helpful.

For those cringing in horror at the thought of this mod ....My stepdad is a carpenter so he can do this and make it look great.

There's always a way. I've made quite a few mods to my 35U for accessibility. In doing so, I've found that careful disassembly reveals a lot. Although the vertical cabinets may provide some support to the overheads, I sincerely doubt that they provide structural support to the RV. In terms of overhead support, I'm sure your father-in-law can come up with a solution.

Winnebagos have metal plates in the walls and ceilings for mounting fixtures. Winnebago can provide you with drawings, give them a call.

And, if you're careful, this can be reversed for re-sale.
