Recieved another recall. I have the 4 door ref. There is a problem with the roof vent cap, causing fires. Can not use on gas until repaired. Dealer knows nothing about it, they need to check into it. Love these 75 mile drives to have it checked. Guess I can have them check it while fixing the slide. Vet Man

Vetman,

Now why would you get a recall notice on your coach when it's 5 years beyond the last recalled product? Surely Winnebago was using 5 year old stock, they have "just in time manufacturing". Let us know what you find out. You'll need your refrigerator model and serial number when you call, it's in your INFO BAG.

Who sent you the recall? was it the refrig. manufacturer? If your dealer doesn't knoow anything, does Winnebago? You have their phone number in your owner's manual package that has owner relations listed.

I got one too for the fridge in our 2004 Journey. It came from Winnebago. Just called our dealer and they can get the motorhome in to be looked at in 4 weeks. Having just had it back from Freightliner after 7 weeks of repair I now find we can't use the fridge for another 4 weeks

I was happy to see that this recall only aplies to coach floorplans where the top refer vent is not directly over the bottom (inlet) vent.

Pick up MH tomorrow. The Dealer rep said a new hole had to be cut in the roof move the vent cap about 6 inches then fix the hole with a kit that came with the new vent. Does not make me happy that I now have a patched roof. This is my 3rd recall, will consider something other then Winnebago in the future. Vet Man

It's not too clear in my head as to what exactly is wrong. But if it's an airflow issue, I think I owuld consider adding a fan to help the airflow vs. cutting holes in my roof if I had one of the problem coaches.

Do the coaches in question not have the roof vent right above the fridge? Why? Apparently they can move the vent there. Were they misbuilt?

I read the recall notice sent to a neighbor - we both have 2005 Meridian 39 footers. Mine is an F and doesn't have the problem. His is a J and does. I am speculating here (the recall is not that specific) but I think this is how the problem started. Winnebago had a standard roof layout for each model. That fixes the position of the upper refer vent. The lower vent location depended on which refer you have. It has to be placed to provide access to the burner and controls. Most have a fan to aid circulation and Winnebago didn't think a few inches off center would matter. Wrong - apparently. The bulk of the circulation is by convection and having the vents directly over one another kept the heat buildup in the upper wall within limits. Anyway, that's my guess.

Rich Blok, your explaination makes sense to me knowing the repair they did. The repair kit came with a patch kit. The dealer told me not to even run the ref on elect until recall was completed. That my have been overkill because they did not mention that on the recall. They did say there was a possibility of a roof fire. Vet Man
