(Another) What The Heck?

I found these holes this morning on our coach, they are right in front of both Slide Out Topper's..... Is there something missing? Everything appears to be working just fine....

Again Thanks Leeb

Yikes! There's supposed to be a catch there that the arm contacts when the slide is closing. It appears that the screws that hold the catch have been pulled right out of the side of the MH.

I'll try to take a picture of what's supposed to be there.

Another couple of pictures, the catch on the side of the MH prevents the topper from unfurling in the wind when the slide is closed:

In the mean time get some caulk and fill the holes to prevent water intrusion.

LeeB, get a phillips screwdriver and go around the whole coach and tighten all the screws that are backing out and replace the ones already missing. This is an ongoing maintenance issue. Open the compartment doors and you'll see lots of screws, many that will be loose. I use a small amount of polyurethane rubber sealer on the head of the ones that just won't stay tight for any length of time.

Both our 2004 coaches were built around the same time when the industry was really booming. I figure 1/3 of the Winnie workforce that year were rookies. As a result one in five self-tapping drill screws on my coach were stripped out during manufacturing. In many cases I had to install the next larger size screw diameter to get a good grip in the base material.

You'll really enjoy your coach once you get all the little nagging problems fixed.

Happy trails,
Bill

Great Tip sounds like a great project to keep me out of Mama's hair...... Thanks...
Can't wait to get the little nagging problems out of the way. I know there will be problems along the way, after all it is a house going down the road at 60 MPH.....

Great advice. I also recommend changing them to stainless so you never have to worry about rust in the future

That stop prevents a burst of air from billowing your topper and ripping it off. I suspect it worked as designed, saved your topper awning but got ripped away from the RV in the process, screws stripped and loose enough that it fell off next time you extended your slide.
