Aluminum Duct Tape for Temporary Roof Leak Repair

I have several leaks in the roof of my recently acquired, 2002 Itasca Suncruiser 35U that couldn't be properly repaired for a couple of weeks due to weather and waiting for a new skylight to be shipped.

I discovered that Nashua Extreme Weather aluminum foil duct tape does a great job, sticks firmly and leaves almost no residue when peeled off. Although I'm only recommending it for temporary use, I used some on top of an acrylic porch awning at my house. It's been there since last summer and shows no signs of deterioration or failure.

Since it's made of foil, it does tear easily and shouldn't be used where tensile strength is important as in bridging a crack between two independently moving parts.

The foil tape is available at Home Depot:

Before using the foil tape, I used Gorilla Tape in a couple of spots and not only is it starting to peel in a couple of places after a couple of weeks, the residue is a pain to remove.

The foil tape also conforms better to irregular surfaces like antenna bases, etc.

I double checked and it wasn't Gorilla tape that I'd used, it was Nashua All-Weather White HVAC Duct Tape that had the sticky residue. They must use a different adhesive on the foil tape.
