With the A/C On when driving into campgrounds with dust-covered roads, the exhaust from the A/C blows up so much dust that I just shut it down before entering. Has anyone put a baffle or deflector on the A/C exhaust? (to vent it sideways).

The toad takes the biggest beating in the dust cloud! The time between getting from the office to the site isn't all that long so creating a solution to address that one problem for the time it's needed seems like a lot of work.

I don't think that shutting down the unit for a few minutes won't present too much climate loss in the coach until you get the rig situated and plugged in.

So I vote for shutting down the unit.

You have to shut the unit down to connect to the AC power cord. At least I always do. So that sounds like a good idea to shut it down while signing in anyway.

Hi Thudman,

We started out with an Adventurer and had the dust problem as well as the AC exhaust heat scorching grass. I also noticed that when parked at a curb, the exhaust would blow down and to the side and be deflected by the curb ˜up' and back into the coils. That hot air just had to be reducing the efficiency of the AC. (It was!)

When we traded up to the Journey, it had the same problem so I designed and made the deflector that you see in the pictures posted in my Photo Gallery. It doesn't look like much because of a little rust (I need to treat it with Extend), but it does a perfect job of diverting the exhaust to the opposite side of the coach. The dust problem on dirt roads from the AC exhaust is eliminated.

It worked so well that I moved it from the Journey to the Horizon. The engine fan on the Horizon is still a dust producer.

I hope this gives you some ideas. I don't think I want to make another one.

I just posted the pics and they are awaiting approval.

We have had problems with the AC condenser collecting grass clippings when some parks are running the mowers. I wait until they finish and pick/blow/brush the grass off. A bit of a hassle but it doesn't happen very often. (At least it's not me running the mower )

We have driven in so much dust up here I have noticed the Cummins air filter monitor (the little clear cylinder thingy that measures vacuum)is now at about 1/3 of the scale but still well in the green. We probably will need a new air filter when we get back to the 48.

Thx Mark. Looks a bit complicated for this city boy. Like DriVer, I'll shut down the A/C in dusty areas. Appreciate inputs from all.
