I've used Mobil 1 and Royal Purple Synthic Oil. My 1992 Pontiac with a v-6 went over 300 thousand miles. Faithfully changing the oil every 20 to 25 thousand miles. Changed the oil and Air filter then too. Usually around 12 to 15 thousand miles I changed the oil filter and added 1/2 qt of oil. when I sold the car it ran fine, the body sucked. Everyone has a different idea on changing oil. do what you are comfortable with. If your vehicle has a warrenty then follow those mfg recommendations to protect yourself and wallet. Just use a good oil. there are many places on the web where you can actually compare each companies oil specs. You'll see there isn't much difference except for the advertising and in some cases the commissions. Last time I checked 1/2 dozen different oils I found there wasn't any reason to NOT use one of them . just pick your price of that quality oil. I'm sticking with Shells Rotella or mobil 1 for diesels, which ever is on sale or discounted the most. ed

Check with Cummins.
Yep,and the 2008 and 2013 ISL Cummins is 20,000 miles and a year. We've hit that 20k a few times with our 2008 Allegro Bus and I also tested the oil. Never close to needing a change when the mileage rolled around. We run the rigs a lot of miles, both winter and summer, and I believe that aids in keeping the oil up to snuff. 74000 miles in 5 years on the 08 and 8800 miles in 7 weeks so far on the 13. I don't think you can go wrong following engine manufacturers recommendations, and if you are a bit of a gambler or test carefully you can go a lot longer.

I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado with a Duramax and I change the oil twice a year when I do the fuel filter....it has 107,000 miles on it and knock on wood no problems....I change the oil on the motorhome the beginning of the season and use synthetic.....or a synthetic blend.....whatever Wal-Mart has on sale....its a 2008 Coachman Freelander on a workhorse chassis with 6.0 at the end of the season it hasn't used any oil and the oil is still reasonably clean considering how hard that engine works, usually we go about 4000 miles a year as I commute with the coach on occasion to keep her in fighting shape.
