Cool 2016 Sunova 33c Rest Easy couch modification.

Love this floor plan but with opposing slides comes a very narrow walkway when slides are in. Turns out the rest easy sofa is mounted way out from the wall and can be modified to push it back 2" and still not hit the wall behind it when reclining or made into a bed. First step is to pull out the footrest and track and cut 2" off the back of the square tube so it also can be mounted closer to the wall. With the footrest out you can crawl under the sofa and unscrew the two spacer boards behind the couch and rip 2" off then reinstall. Next remove the 4 screws holding the armrest and disconnect recline switch wiring. Remove staples on the wall end of armrest and peel back upholstery about 8" to expose wood frame. Plywood end plate is attached with long staples and no glue so you can pull it off- shorten the side boards 2" and re-attach plywood end and pull upholstery back and staple then re-install on sofa. Now to move sofa back you need to locate the floor mounting plate [8 each] and loosen the hex screws [4 each plate] then remove the pan head screws that hold the plates to the sofa frame. Now you can push the sofa back till the armrests hit the wall and re-attach sofa to floor plates and tighten down hex screws. Button it up by installing the footrest [mount it 2" back from original mounting hole in floor]. The space gained may not sound like much but with this and turning the lounge chair sideways when traveling makes it much easier to maneuver with slides in. Hardest part is getting up and down off the floor a bunch of times.

Nice write up. I will be doing this. Did you use a hack saw to shorten the tube?

sofa mod

Used a sawzall, hacksaw will work also-just pop out the plastic end cap, cut off 2" of the tube and re-install cap.
