2014 journey 34B Engine Cleaning?

Recently bought a 2014 journey 34B. The engine is covered with 5 years worth of dirt and grime. Tried to blow it of with air but that didn't help. Does anyone know whether it is safe to use an 1800 psi pressure washer to clean the Cummins engine off?

power washing engines is fairly common but it also is like a lot of things and does need some thought. The metal should all be cool as you don't want to unnecessarily hit something to change temp too much and second is WHERE you want to clean and where you want to avoid. Logic says not to spray water into openings like oil dipsticks, filters and not too hard on wiring bundles.
So bottom line is it works quick but you don't want to be so quick that you blow a bunch of water or gunk into places where it should not go. Controlling how far back the wand is held is one way to moderate the pressure. If it's the engine block, you can get close enough to take the paint off---if that's what you want. But if it's a foil covered ductwork, better to stay off that part! Don't want to blow the soundproofing off, either.

You are going to find that rear engine diesels pick up a lot of dirt if you have a rear radiator with a high power fan sucking cooling air from the forward part of the coach. Personally, I have had no dirt related problems. That said, I do gentily power wash the rad from the rear to keep it clean for optimal cooling. You really need need to be careful to avoid bending the cooling fins on the radiator so stand back several feet. I would never wash the remainder of the engine for fear of damaging or introducing water into the multiple electrical assemblies. Good luck.

I have cleaned my engine a few times.

First I blow as much dust off as I can, my little shop-vac in blow mode handles that.

Then with some strategically placed plastic for protection in the bedroom where the access panels are, I use a regular garden hose with a very fine stream nozzle to spray the engine surface off. I try to avoid obvious electronic items, but hit the rest.

It doesn't get it as clean as a pressure washer would, but it looks ok for another year or two of driving. And the pressure is not enough to really worry about hurting things.

Just an alternate way to keep the dust down for a while.
