2005 journey 36g water heater check valve

No water flowing thru hot water lines. With great difficulty got the cold water inlet check valve out and gutted it...no change in lack of flow so it must be the outlet check valve. Looking at the top of the tank all I see is a nylon elbow coming out of the water heater connnected to a pex line with a red stripe. Is the check valve inside that nylon elbow? Don’t want to sacrifice a lot of time, skin and blood trying to get that elbow out if it is not the outflow check valve. Thanks, Randy
