Tow vehicle
We plan on picking up our new to us rig on Wed of this week. It's an 07 Voyage with the Chevy Vortex. Next purchase will be a tow vehicle. Weight will be of concern, considering a Chev Colorado or a Jeep Liberty. About 3700 lbs for the Colorado vs about 4300 lbs for the Liberty. Anyone have experience with a setup like this? Suggestions? Thanks, Dave

I have an 06 36 foot Sunrise triple slide (similar to Voyage) on a 22K Workhorse chassis. We're loaded for snowbirding for 5-6 months. I'm right at the GVWR and GCWR (26K) towing a Ford Focus on a dolly. If the Voyage is on the 22K chassis and it has a combo washer, it could be close to being overweight. The 24K chassis would be a better choice.

I have towed my 2010 Honda Fit, automatic, four wheels down, over 15,000 miles, without any problems. It weighs less than 2,600 lbs. It is a great little car. They have changed the transmission on the newer automatic models and they cannot be towed 4-down.

It's the 35L model, two slides, king bed, 22.5" tires. Rig isn't here yet but I have the vin, how do I tell which chassis it has?

Found a vin decoder, it's a W24 and it's model 35L. Can I tow the Colorado?

My W24 rig weighs in at 22,300 loaded for an 8 day trip (black and gray mostly empty, water tank filled to a third, I fill it once I get over the mountains). My Wrangler is 4,100 for a total of 26,400, well below any limits. No problem climbing 8% grades at about 40 mph.

The W-24 has a 24,000 GVWR and a 30,000 pound GCVWR, so you should be good with either toad assuming you are not over on GVWR if you are SURE it is a W-24.
If the sixth vin character is an "A" it is a W-24.
If the sixth character is a "6" then it is a W-22 and the GCVWR on those is 26,000 pounds.
Frankly, I'm a bit surprised WBGO used a W-24 under a 35' Voyage, but maybe the W-24 was an option, I really don't know.
Trust, but verify, comes to mind.

W24 has the 2100 aliison trans its a great unit. Does it have the auto park brake with yellow button on dash? How many miles on the coach? You might want to change trans fluid if it hasnt been done.

Has the yellow button, 34k miles, very clean-been well cared for. Not our first rig but the first with a king size bed. Looking forward to the first trip!

It is "A" so I'm sure it is the W24. Feel much better now, ready to shop for the tow!

That is great news. While the W-24 is quite capable of towing almost any toad you may choose, you should also know that a supplemental braking system on the toad will be required by almost every state. Sure, you can go without one, but I would not want to give that advantage to a personal injury lawyer if you don't stop "in time".
