I posted this on rv.net but since I consider this forum my "extended family" I thought you all needed to see this picture as well.

We were in a campground in the great state of Texas recently (we will not get any more specific to protect the guilty) when I noticed a commotion a couple of sites to the south of us. Somehow these people drove off the end of their tow dolly when loading their car.

Check it out:
http://www.janeandjohn.org/images/towdollyfollies.jpg

It took a wrecker with a tongue lift to lift the rear end of the car while both reversed.

That would seem like a good reason to NOT us a tow dolly!

That looks like a major WHOOPS. Hope it did not damage very much.

Doug - that's exactly what I was tempted to tell them, but the wrecker guy (and owner) might have been embarassed by a simple suggestion.

Anyway it was fun watching

Oh no not us! - we tow four-down -- it is much simpler and we bought the Jeep specifically for that purpose.

I really wanted to tell those people to just take the wheels off the tow dolly, but I don't like to offer unsolicited solutions in that kind of situation.

I can attest to John and Jane towing four down as there are pictures of his setup on HIS WEBSITE.

I'll also get to see his toad on Tuesday when I get to Forest City....

I'm not sure whether I'm more excited about meeting Jane and John than I am about seeing the factory tour...

Haven't met anyone face to face from the forum yet...

Bob,

You have to let us all know if his left eye keeps blinking all the time.

Well obviously that guy didn't know how to load a car onto a dolly. Number one that dolly probaly didn't have wheel pockets to put tires in and secondly the driver didn't use his left foot on the brake as he went up on the dolly.
I have a Roadmaster dolly and have used it to tow my Honda Civic and never once felt I was going off the other end.
It really boils down to driver know how and a lot of common sense.

THe other thing is that I noticed it was a Jeep. Well Jeeps aren't supposed to be towed on dollies but are supposed to be towed four down.

Enough said about party involved. I use my dolly exclusively and it works great plus I like it in case I buy another car.

I saw the same thing on another forum a while back and the funny thing was that the wife had overdriven the dolly and the fenders on the dolly were so high that she couldn't get the car doors open. Apparently the husband just let her sit in the car for quite a while to "teach her a lesson". I can imagine there was some friction in that household for a few days thereafter!!!!!
