Recommend a toad car

Any recommendation on which car to tow with a tow bar with the least amount of preparation for hook up and unhooking. We have a 2010 Nissan Cube with the CVT transmission. This has to be towed on a Demco SS dolly, which is a lot of work to get loaded and a lot of work to unload.

This is for a 2016 Forza Winnebago 38G diesel.

We chose a Ford Focus and love it. Both of us have knee problems and find it easy to get in and out of. Sets up in minutes.

Hello,
We towed a Saturn Vue for about eight years. No trouble at all.
Replaced the Vue this past March for a Chevy Equinox. Very easy to install the base plate. Took me about three hours.
Tows great. Just like the Vue. We have air brakes so I used our Roadmaster air brake.
Regards,
JimB

You're right about the tow dolly - we did that for about 3 mos. and said "forget it".

We now tow a '05 Honda CRV. This is one of the few automatic transmission foreign, high rated vehicles that can tow 4 down. We have put well over 15000 miles towing with no problems.

Looking to move up to a newer CRV soon. They still can be towed 4down through 2014 - after that they changed the transmission to CVT and those can't be towed 4down.

Another tip: when it comes to hooking up your motorhome lights with the toad, get a set of https://www.etrailer.com/Tow-Bar-Wir...er/RM-155.html. They provide toad lights without connecting to the toad light system which can avoid problems.

Good luck!

Ditto on the Ford Focus. Very easy to hook up to tow. Great gas mileage. We average about 33 mpg. Easy on pocket book. 10k out the door w new tires and breaks for used one. Really like driving it. No problem taking another couple in it.

Flat towing any vehicle is going to be the same as far as hook up and unhooking. The only difference I can think of is the type of brake system for the toad that you will use, and even that will be the same for any vehicle, just the brake system itself would be different depending on what you get. So with that in mind get the toad that you will like the most when not towing it, but are using it to run around in. They all have to be hooked up to a tow bar. Which means you will need a tow bar base plate mounted on the car.

We tow a Chevy Equinox. Lots of room for a small sized SUV.

We choose the Equinox over the Escape and Liberty because of legroom.

I towed a Chevy HHR(3,300 lb) for 6 years. Plenty used ones at low price available.

Easy to set up. There is one 2 AMP fuse that needs pulled. But very easy to put a switch on it. After that put in "N" and go.

The Jeep Cherokee is an excellent towed vehicle. 4 drs with a useable back seat, light weight inexpensive base plates.

Honda CRV 2014 or older as the newer models are not flat towable.

We tow a Ford Edge Limited AWD. 4 down capable from factory. Had Roadmaster brackets installed up front which blend in nicely along with Invisibrake system and its wiring.

Select N, ACC, headlights in Auto, brake off, and as technique we select Recirc to keep any dust/fumes out. Works great.

We tow an '05 Honda Odyssey. Has 107,000 mils on it and another 30,000 or more towing it. Kind of heavy at 4,400 dry weight for some rigs. We've also towed it on a KK-460 dolly. Guess I prefer 4 down even though it puts more wear and tear on the Ody.

My post was vague and incomplete. I edited the post, and thanks for your input.

they should be all about the same as long as the manufacture says you can tow four down. i would think the lighter the better for mpg.

Pre 2014 Honda CRV. Been towing ours 4 down since 2004 on 2 different motorhomes. The Voyage doesn't even know it's there and the CRV follows "like a little puppy."

Any vehicle that you can tow 4down will hook up the same and be negligable as far as differences. It will then come down to how it feels to you getting in and out of the vehicle itself. I am not near as flexible as I once was and know that I will continue to "stiffen" as I age....lol Therefore, something small and not very easy to get in and out of will be crossed off my list quickly.

Personally, we drag a Jeep Wrangler behind our Winnie. We love it, sits up at the right height were we don't climb up into it or climb up out of it. Tows easy. First year we had it on a Tow Dolly and it was a PITA, now it is on a Blue Ox base plate and a breeze to hook up and tow, but it is no easier or harder than any other vehicle on a base plate.

Look at the car/truck/SUV you want against the GoodSam list of 4down towables and enjoy.

We love our 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek with a manual transmission. It is roomy and light weight. The Forester is slightly heavier and also flat towable. However, I am told that Subaru disapproved flat towing for the 2016 models.
