Need for breakaway switch with brake controller

Looking into buying a brake controller for my TOAD to install myself and I'm wondering about the necessity to install the breakaway switch. I realize the braking system is necessary/required but the breakaway function seems to be overkill considering everyone uses safety chains for the unlikely event of a catastrophic hitch failure. Who agrees and has not installed the breakaway switch with their controller?

There are hundreds of instances where cars have become separated from a motorhome and the safety chains have snapped or the attachments have snapped.

The breakaway is essential in a case like this to keep your toad from crossing the road and hitting other cars head on.

It's not perfect, but it IS necessary.

IMHO, this is a no-brainer and required in many states. I agree it's "belt-and-suspenders but they're not very expensive and could save someone's life in a following car.

You didn't ask about braking system recommendations but you might want to consider the Ready Brake systems. They're economical, effective, easy to use and aren't dependent on electricity or electronics.
