Boat Towing
We have a 2000 Adventurer 35U on F53 Chassis powered by a Gas V10. My question is about towing a 22' boat and trailer weighing about 4500 lbs. Specifically about putting the boat in the water and retreaving it. My concern is with how steep the boat ramps are and if this is going to present a problem getting up and out of the boat ramp once I'm loaded. Will my V-10 have the juice to pull it off? This was one of the reasons we went RV instead of 5th wheel. Can anyone advise? As always, I appreciate your responses.

Boat towing
The very few people I have seen launching a boat with there motor home had a hitch in front. They drove the boat into the water. Much more control both in and out. Don't know if reverse has more power, but you can see what you are doing better.

As someone who has owned 5 boats and trailered them many times, I would have the following opinions:
1. launching and retrieving a heavy boat with a front mounted hitch may be more easy for someone who is not good at backing up a trailer.
2. I would be concerned about the stress on the transmission based on point #1 above. Retreiving a heavy boat in reverse may likely put more stress on the transmission than doing it in low gear moving forward....someone with more technical knowledge about the tranny on the F-53 chassis will have to weigh in on that.
3. I'd prefer launching the boat in the usual way by backing down the ramp.

We launched our 20' in several Midwest and Western states with a 454 Chev and 34' MH. For undeveloped launch ramps we used the front hitch to keep the drive tires on firm ground.

My driveway is way steeper than most launch ramps and I routinely pull my 3900 pound Jeep up the driveway with no problem.
I have used my motor home to launch Jet Skis (no weight issue) with no problem. Some one in the past posted a picture of a motor home in the water after a botched launch so, do be careful.

Be careful and never leave the drivers seat when launching.

That's some good advice. I'll bet somebody had some explaning to do when they called in the claim.

I would think that the over hang of the vehicle/trailer would be very steep at the top of the ramp, causing the back of the boat to be very close to the concrete.

I have never had a problem launching my 18' boat with my 30' Class A MH.
That said, my old 20' Class C MH came with a hitch on the front bumper. It makes backing a trailer into a tight area a lot easier but you will still have to back up the ramp. Where I launch our boat it is easier to back down the ramp. Backing up the ramp into the parking lot is a lot harder.
