We travel the route from Lordsburg to Globe frequently and we have found 2 good ways to go.
First, the sequence listed above. US 70 from Lordsburg to Globe is a nice road through a mostly empty desert with several small towns. The part from Lordsburg to Safford is very nice with only one small town (Duncan), but is a bit hilly.
An alternate, which is a bit longer, but probably a bit faster, is I-10 to US-191 in Arizona, then up US 191 to Safford, Az and then left back onto US 70 to Globe. This has the advantage of being almost all 4 lane highway with only the last 15 miles or so before Safford dropping down to 2 lane and then 4 lane in the Safford area.
The second route is perhaps 15 miles longer, but probably about 10 minutes faster because you have no place to get behind slow traffic. That part of Arizona is farm land and you often see tractors and small trucks on the back roads.
