We try to get in there every other year. Usually make Custer about mid-May after a few days at Yellowstone.
As Randy says, nice days, cool to cold nights, but we've not experienced freezing. Kids still in school
Lots of campgrounds to choose from. State/Fed and private. Several state campgrounds between Custer and Mt. Rushmore.
Summer rates begin June 1st.
Crazy Horse memorial a must see. Disappointed in Deadwood. Plan carefully before driving Black Hills Loop. Another must see destination. But don't think your Trivato will make it through the Eye of the Needle. Our little Ranger left little side clearance.
If you are a wino, it is wine country. They tend to sweet wines - not generally our taste. But who doesn't need a couple of bottles of rhubarb, some buffaloberry, chokecherry, Red Ass, or strawberry wine, so stop by Prairie Berry Winery
Last trip up we stayed at Big Pine Campground south side of Custer. Very nice, large sites, wooded. A great young couple (30's) bought it in 2016. Putting heart and soul into it.
