Las Vegas KOA
I am new to this rv lifestyle, and need all the info/help I can get. I plan on wintering at the Sam's Town KOA in Las Vegas this year. Can anyone tell me about this park.
I just picked up a new 2015 Vista 36Y and will tow a 2016 Jeep Patriot.
Thanks for ant and all info.

We were there last spring. OK for a few nights to gamble. But would not want to spend winter there, too many nice "quiet" places down south. Like Arizona, warmer, lots to do and reasonable prices.

I'm all in with Len :-) We stayed there over Thanksgiving week last fall. Not a bad place for a few days of gambling and hitting the outlet malls but probably there are better places for a long term stay. We did notice several sites that were occupied by what appeared to be long term residents, so others are staying there, If Las Vegas is your desired destination there are a couple of state parks nearby that have nice campgrounds that would likely be more affordable and have much nicer scenery.

We spent a week there a few years ago. They have a free shuttle to the strip. There is a walmart across the street. I thought the park was nice enough.

Just stayed a couple of nights in Las Vegas and used a new one to us (we used the KOA Sams before it was a KOA). We went to the Hitchin Post RV in North Las Vegas. Great security (the neighborhood around might be a little run down) behind electric gates. Office available 24 hrs. Good restaurant right on the property. Spots all are very level gravel. Good pool and bath rooms. Showers are better than just OK. If you want Las Vegas as your winter destination this one might work. There were many long termers but well kept up. If just a winter layover is your desire then maybe somewhere else might be better. Bullhead City comes to mind just south of Las Vegas along the Colorado river. Had friends who wintered there for a couple of decades. Casinos (they used all the cheap eats coupons they could find), stores and Las Vegas less than an hour away if needed.

Check out the Oasis Las Vegas Resort. It is located on the south end of the Las Vegas Strip and they have shuttles to the strip. Good security.
Good Sam park and also Passport America.

Since you are new I wouldn't "winter" anyplace for more than a week. Get a taste of different locations. AZ, TX, CA are all good winter locations. No matter what you do don't commit to a long term stay until you try out a cg for a week or so. You don't want to be locked into a contract and find out you don't like the cg or location.

You might like Oasis in Vegas, and Riverside in Laughlin. While at each place, since you have a toad, you can look around for what else is available. Riverside offers "member rewards", and those bring the cost down a lot. Another nice place is Distant Drums, near Sedona, and close to Cliff Castle Casino (on I-17). Safe travels.

We generally stay at this KOA over Christmas and have done so for the past couple of years. I agree with the above comments. It's a good place to stay, but I would move around if you are going to stay longer than a week. If you do stay at the Las Vegas KOA, make sure you eat at Billy Bob's in Sam's Town. They have great crab legs! Enjoy.

We usually stay there for about four days on the way home from Yuma. We liked it much better before it became a KOA!

We live full-time in Vegas and we also travel in our 40' Journey. Most Vegas RV parks, including KOA, are located along Boulder Highway. This is a very sketchy part of town with lots of crime and hookers roam the street. The best RV park in Vegas is Oasis, located near the south Strip at the corner of I-15 and Blue Diamond. This is a nice part of town, but you'll pay a premium for it. Having said that, however, lots of snowbirds winter in the Boulder Highway RV parks. We consider these to be sort of blue collar parks and the casinos nearby are likewise.

Unless you are expecting a lot of visitors that are not authorized on a military post I would recommend staying at the RV camp on base. It is cheaper and the security is much better. You would also have better access to the commissary and BX.

Yes, if you're retired military, then the Nellis Fam Camp would be a good, safe place.
