how many miles should you plan to travel per day?

Regardless of the situation, I like to get to the destination before the campground office closes in case there are problems with my space, and especially before dark.

I been traveling most my time on vacation, Traveling, events, and most importantly motocross racing. A lot of my racing and my son's racing traveled from OR, to Wash, Idaho, Utah, Socal to AZ.
My experience was 400 was a good drive. But a 1000 wouldn't be that big of a deal either. We have been know to go @1500 both driving, switch driver seets without stopping.
But that besides the point. My girly friend and I are going out on the road for pleasure in July. We're planning traveling around the US with mom-in-law for a month visit in New York. We have no hurry, no time frame, just lots of DT. (down time). Lately it's taking me 3 days to get 127 miles. Get that. 🤔. By budget is $800-$1K a month or less. Only issue we're worred about is when not to be caught in Toronto Ally, hurricane season, snow storm and flash floods in AZ. Will work around that stuff. I heard that trailer parks, motohome, semis are an attraction twards tornados. So I'll avoid them the most. Drive till your tired, that's my 2¢<.

what’s the hurry? we limit driving to no more than abt 4-hrs per day. we’re usually out of the park by 10 and set up in the next one by 3. that includes an hour for lunch. and we’ll often stay more than a day before going on.

We like to go by time leaving / time arriving and not so much miles per day . We generally like to start our day around 9 a.m. and end our day around 4 p.m. . We try to make stops every 2 hours to walk the dog and stretch . Some days we tend to go longer but this is our general rule .

same here except we’re more like 10a-12noon, lunch till 1 then 2-hrs of driving till 3. that can and has varied but that’s our plan.

I prefer to drive RV to a central location and then drive my small vehicle to places of interest from there - much less PIA to drive and better mpg and simply easier to go long distances if needed hopefully with less fear of vehicle breaking.

But of course relocate when/if you want to spend more time in a place you like.

Discovery is what i like so planning is just a big picture thing, adapting to what interest you and new things makes a trip FUN or if you just want to relax next to that wonder little river in RV that is ok too !!

My average is about 6 hours driving. In the Wide Open West, it is far between many stops. The most I've done in a single stretch was 950 miles (13 hours) from Vail to Reno.

We try to keep it at 4 hours. And with a dog we stop at many rest areas to play Frisbee.
I like to get to a campground in time to be sitting outside with a Martini and watch the "big boys" roll in.

When planning a trip I determine where I can actually stop each day and how many hours it will take to get there. I do not like traveling more than 4 hours in a day unless I am traveling through areas where there is nothing much to see, like Texas for example.

If all you want to do is have an RV in Alaska it would be better to fly to Anchorage and rent an RV and travel around and then fly back home. If you want to see specific parts of the USA then I would look at points of interest and develop a route and then see how long it takes to get between them. There may be places that are only 2 hours drive time apart but still worth stopping and spending time at them.

I live in California and even people who should know better will insist on taking a two week trip and going to Disneyland and Yosemite and San Francisco and the wine country and they will be spending most of their time in their vehicle.

With my small fuel tank, we have a range of less than 200 miles. We make just one fuel stop before settling in by 4pm. That’s 350 miles or 6 hours max. Besides, at my age my rear end gets sore.

My personal preference is that I'll maybe stretch it out to a 3-3-4 minimum to a preferred destination, especially on the first day when I usually get an early start.

YOu try and make it about the destination. Not about how fast or how long. "IF" you can you take time to smell the roses.
