Gulfwaters RV Resort - Port Aransas, TX

We're spending a week at Gulfwaters RV Resort in Port Aransas, TX and really enjoying the resort and the whole area. We live 3 hours north of here and have come to Port A many times, But this is our first time in 3 years and our first trip after Hurricane Harvey did a direct hit of the area.

3-months after Harvey there is a lot of rebuilding going on, but restaurants and bars are reopened. Every T-shirt shop in town is closed and abandoned. Lots of rebuilding going on everywhere.

Gulfwaters RV park was closed for a month or two but is fully open and shows no sign of damage.

This is an "ownership" park. You purchase your lot and can embellish it with a patio, outdoor kitchen, etc. Then when you are not using it they rent it out for you. It's got about 200 or so sites and they built ponds that the sites are built around. You pull in and the view out of the front windshield is the pond and palms.

There's a nice wide boardwalk over the dunes to the beach, too. And, we're set up about 50 yards from the entrance.

Here's some photos. Highly recommend this resort:

Conventional wisdom has it that Port A won't be open for months! And the restaurants are open! How can that be!

Seriously, glad to hear they are open for business.

Well, not all the restaurants. About 10 or so of them. Virginia's is open but Beulah's Tarpon Inn Restaurant looks like it will never reopen. It looked like just about EVERY high rise condo was closed. Though the word was the Royal Palm would reopen in a month or so.

It's odd to see all the T-Shirt shops - and there were 4 or 5 HUGE Port A T-Shirt stores there - with all the windows blown out and debris in their parking lots.

The grocery store was open, but they were doing repairs to the building as you shopped. Many aisles had one naked light bulb hanging in the middle of the row.

But it is open and everyone said they appreciated the business. Paul's Seafood was open and doing a booming business with all new display cases full of fresh caught Gulf shrimp and fish.

PS. The liquor store was gone, as well.
